Say hello to Bo! She is a very resourceful raccoon who creates all of her outfits. Bo loves plants and crafts; she is particularly interested in fashion design. She sells her hand-dyed and sewn clothing and hopes to one day open a boutique. Her main inspiration is 60's and 70's fashion and design. You can find her most day sewing the funkiest pair of pants you've ever seen while her favorite band, The Secret Sisters, plays through the house.
Bo was the first puppet I struggled designing; I could see her in many different outfits and colors. I was overwhelmed by her character. I could not decide what fabric would be best for her skirt or which shoe she would like better. The more I reflected, I realized I did not have to pick only one. In fact, Bo would not want a freshly cut skirt. She would take scraps, something others saw as trash, and turn them into something beautiful.
I ran to the container of scraps I kept from past projects and dumped it all in front of me. Finally, I could see who she was meant to be.
I knew a patchwork skirt would be perfect for this character, and I had an outrageous amount of fun sewing each piece together. I felt it was only fitting to give her mismatched shoes as well. As I created her costume, I began to understand her world better. I could see a new piece of her life and personality with every new stitch I made.
I crocheted a cozy cardigan and gave her a sparkly turtleneck sweater. I was absolutely thrilled with how everything came together.
Once I finished her outfit, I realized I wasn't t finished. Bo's passion for fashion could not stop at a skirt. I decided to fit her for a pair of bell-bottoms.
In my head Bo is the kind of person who is always creating and always planning her next great idea. She is constantly jumping to new and exciting things leaving much of her projects a work in progress.
