'My Dad, the Hero' is a concept I conceived after watching my bother care for his daughter. When creating these characters I wanted to produce two designs that exuded love, warmth and comfort. Instinctually, I wanted to make a bear and his cub.

I began my design with a simple sketch. Initially, I wanted my characters to be dressed as super heroes with masks hiding their true identity.

This design changed as I created the puppets. I felt masking the characters would take away from from their warmth and friendliness and decided to leave the two unmasked. I instead decided to give them matching shirts to show a visual bond between the papa bear and baby bear.

I was beyond pleased with my end product. I could feel the connection between the two characters. It was pure magic to see these two come to life. It feels like I ripped them right out of a storybook.

After the puppets were finished I recorded a short birthday message from my niece. I created a short animation using her audio and the baby bear to create a little birthday gift for my brother.
